How We Started
In late 1979, Mike Godwin was working for Godwin Manufacturing. When he began doing some work on CocaCola signs, he realized he could make it into his own business. A few months later, he started Mike’s Sign & Boom on Hill Street in Dunn that offered signage to the local people and surrounding areas.
During that same time, Mickey Hodges started working on manufactured signs in Lillington, NC. Mickey and Mike formed a great friendship over time. In 1990, Mickey sold his sign business.
Mike ran his business by himself for years. In 1994, after the business had grown exponentially in both job size and clientele size, Mike and Mickey became partners and decided to move to our current location on 301 Highway. They renamed the business Sign & Awning Systems, Inc.
For over two decades they ran Sign & Awning Systems and grew it into the business it is today, with over 30 people on staff and customers across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and more. In 2018, Mike and Mickey retired and the business was bought by Mike’s son-in-laws, Jason Honeycutt and Brandon Johnson.
Today, Sign & Awning Systems is running stronger than ever before. We’re family-owned since 1979 and some of our employees have been here since we started. We are still growing rapidly and continue to create ground-breaking signage solutions to our clients in Dunn, Fayetteville, Raleigh and across North Carolina!
